Are Our Courtrooms Deciding How We Will Manage Our Wildlife?

May 27, 2010

Yesterday I received an email that originated with David Allen, President and CEO of Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. In that email was a memo from the law firm of Budd-Falen Law Offices, LLC, more specifically attorney Karen Budd Falen. Mr. Allen explained that Ms. Falen, whose offices is in Wyoming, is “well versed in issues relevant to significant landowners and sportsmen, primarily in the West.”

The memorandum, which can be downloaded in its entirety with this link, shares data that readily explains how the Endangered Species Act isn’t about saving species. Instead it has been manipulated, which most honest people have come to realize, in order to use taxpayer money to make some environmental groups and individuals quite wealthy. Read more

California Federal Judge Issues First Ruling On Southern Cal. Water Shutoffs

May 19, 2010

Judge Oliver Wanger issued a ruling concerning the Fed’s insistence that water be shut off to citizens in the Central and Southern California area in order to provide enough water for fish, claiming authority under the Endangered Species Act.

Brandon Middleton, lawyer for Pacific Legal Foundation, a property rights advocate, had this to say about Judge Wanger’s ruling. Read more

Liberty Is Not Yours Or Mine To Give And To Take

May 12, 2010

One of the most difficult things for a human to do is respect the liberty of others when we have a notion to disapprove. My liberty comes from God. Yours does as well, although you may not recognize that fact. Perhaps you even believe your freedom is bestowed upon you by your government. If so, my prayers go out that someday you will gladly receive your liberties from the Almighty Creator and not some man who thinks he knows better.

But liberty comes with responsibility, the restraint of exploiting our rights over those of others. Read more

Wolf Science: A Political Football

May 6, 2010

It started in 1987 when Ed Bangs, the Department of Interior and all the wolf-lover environmentalists sold their idea to the American people, specifically those in Idaho, Montana and Wyoming, that 30 breeding pairs of wolves and 300 total wolves would be all that was needed to declare wolf recovery a success. It’s now 2010 and some estimates easily put wolf populations in those three states at over 2,000 and Ed Bangs and the same group are telling the same citizens they need more wolves.

An article yesterday in the Jackson Hole News and Guide quotes Bangs as now saying 45 breeding pairs and 450 wolves will “never be threatened”. I guess Bangs doesn’t learn from his first mistake. In 1987, 30 pairs and 300 wolves would easily do the trick, why should anybody believe for one second that his statement today is any more honest than the ones he made 25 years ago?

It’s clear the feds set the rules, we play by their rules and when the rules don’t fit the game they are playing, they change the rules. Bangs admits that the first day on the job for wolf recovery he knew 30 pairs of wolves wouldn’t be enough and we should trust him now when he tells us 45 will never be threatened?

This kind of political manipulation has to end now.

DeMint Tries To Get Water Turned Back On In California

September 23, 2009

Note: Some of this information comes from Michelle Malkin’s website.

Many of you know, thousands of people and their businesses in California are being greatly affected because the federal government, under the misconstrued direction of the Endangered Species Act, is withholding water used to irrigate farmlands in order to save the delta smelt. Unemployment rates are as high as 40%, crops are dying and many long time businesses are on the verge of collapse, yet environmentalists, the President and now Congress refuse to do anything about it. Our priorities are really messed up. Read more

Montana’s Firearms Freedom Act Battle Against Obama’s Power Grab

August 25, 2009

Many conservative Americans and those who still understand and cherish the United States Constitution as the glue that keeps our nation free, cheered at the signing of the Montana Firearms Freedom Act, an act signed by Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer and set to take effect on October 1, 2009. The Act essentially declares that any guns or certain parts manufactured in Montana and remain in Montana are not subject to the strong arm of the federal government. It’s an ambitious battle that could have sweeping consequences for Americans and derail the Statists’ progressive, manipulative, incrementalism aimed at total control over free citizens of this country.

Much of the basis for formulating this act has been the attempted revival of the 10th Amendment. Read more

“Animal Crackers” And ESA Power Mongers

August 20, 2009

Pound the drum slowly but loudly and then perhaps with the help of a few more people, like Sean Paige, The American Contrarian, we can let a few more people know that the Endangered Species Act is no longer about protecting endangered species. It’s about power grabbing and property rights destruction.

The Endangered Species Act to most Americans is just a law they’ve heard about, which might even give them a warm and fuzzy tickle deep inside. To many Westerners it’s synonymous with tyranny — an all-powerful presence that licenses the federal government to trample property rights, destroy jobs, obstruct energy development and restrict access to supposedly “public” lands, all to “protect” a subsegment of a subspecies that some graduate student says is rare.

Safari Club International Does Not Support Idaho Elk Industry Destruction

May 27, 2009

Last week I reported that the Idaho Elk Breeders Association was requesting from Safari Club International clarification as to whether they supported the efforts of Mark Bell, a representative of the Idaho Sportsmen’s Caucus Advisory Council, to destroy the state’s domestic elk industry.

Bell and others have been on a bent for several years now to put an end to the Idaho domestic elk industry, so far with little success. Kristy Sternes, president of the Idaho Elk Breeders Association, sent a letter to representatives of Safari Club International asking them to verify if they supported Mark Bell and his efforts. Sternes asserted that when Bell made public appearances aimed at garnering support to abolish the elk industry, he used their name claiming their support. Read more
