June 17, 2010

Both BP CEO Hayward and Obama Support Big Government Efforts to Discourage Fossil Fuels

Washington, D.C. – Responding to President Obama’s speech on the oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, The National Center for Public Policy Research is calling attention to BP’s role in pushing Obama’s cap-and-trade energy policy.

BP was a founding member of the United States Climate Action Partnership – a lobbying coalition that played a key role in passing the Waxman-Markey cap-and-trade bill that passed the House of Representatives last year and the company also played a role in negotiating the terms of the Kerry-Lieberman bill recently introduced in the Senate. Political Contributions Proposal to Be Voted on at PG&E Annual Shareholder Meeting

Concerns over PG&E Lobbying for Cap-and-Trade Spurred Investor Action

Washington, DC: The fate of a Political Contributions Shareholder Proposal being offered by Shelton Ehrich at the PG&E shareholder meeting Wednesday is being carefully monitored by the National Center for Public Policy Research, which applauds efforts to bring greater transparency to corporate political giving.

Tom Borelli, Ph.D., director of the National Center for Public Policy Research‘s Free Enterprise Project, says, “All Americans would benefit from greater transparency regarding corporate political giving. According to the proposal, in 2008 alone, PG&E spent over $27 million lobbying for such things as cap-and-trade, an expensive global warming-related policy scheme that would enrich a handful of corporations while raising consumer prices and driving our jobs overseas.” Read more

The Epitome Of The Global Warming Blame Game

March 26, 2010

Just when you think there’s nothing left to blame global warming on, people can still come up with some real doozies! Consider if you will this list of brilliant deductions concluded by a recent study:

1. When it gets hot outside, people are quicker to anger.

2. People go outside more when the weather is warmer leading to social interaction which could lead to more violence.

3. Changes in weather patterns could lead to poverty, food insecurity and malnutrition making people more violent. Read more

With the release of information contained in allegedly hacked emails from the Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia last November, the main question still unanswered by most is whether any of the information formulated in years of study on the climate is valid. Emails seem to clearly indicate there was a conspiracy to withhold data that had been requested through the Freedom of Information Act. Evidence weighs heavy that data was left out, hidden, and/or manipulated to achieve desired results, along with other damning evidence that should make any reasonable thinking person question the results. President Obama’s Cap-and-Trade Policy Takes Another Hit: BP, Caterpillar and ConocoPhillips Exit USCAP Global Warming Lobbying Group

Washington, D.C.: President Obama’s cap-and-trade policy took another hit with the announcement that oil companies BP and ConocoPhillips and heavy equipment maker Caterpillar are leaving the high-profile United States Climate Action Partnership (USCAP) lobbying organization.

USCAP played a key role in lobbying for the Obama-supported Waxman-Markey cap-and-trade bill approved by the House of Representatives last year.

“The companies that bolted USCAP realized the organization was really a front group serving only the interests of GE and utility companies and their environmental allies. This became obvious when the Waxman-Markey bill gave the vast majority of free carbon allowances to the utility industry while GE reaped the reward of its lobbying muscle by securing federal mandates for electricity generation in a way that benefits GE’s wind turbine business,” said Tom Borelli, PhD, director of the National Center for Public Policy Research’s Free Enterprise Project. Obama To Redirect FWS Resources Toward Climate Research And Land Acquisition

February 11, 2010

It appears Barack Obama’s promise to return science to its rightful place in dealing with conservation and environmental issues isn’t the science most of us hoped it would be. As a matter of fact, one has to question whether his decision to restructure the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service resources away from existing programs and funnel them into new programs geared toward climate research and land acquisition, has anything at all to do with science.
