The Not-So-High Price of Oil
January 23, 2006
Just like everyone else, I have felt the effect of high oil prices in my wallet. It was particularly hard this summer, having to drive a considerable distance each day just to work, and having gasoline jump up every time I went to fill up. However, I am very disappointed by some people’s immediate reaction to attack President Bush over the high price of Oil. It is not his fault, and some simple logic easily defeats the “It’s Bush’s Fault” mentality.
Firstly, Bush isn’t a CEO of an oil company. The Bush family may happen to own stock in oil companies, just as millions of other Americans do (including Michael Moore!), but they do not tell the oil companies what to charge.
The fact that oil prices are so high has relatively little to do with the Bush family, and has more to do with past Presidents and Congresses who have refused to issue permits to oil companies to build new refineries in America, and denied them the right to drill for American oil in places like ANWR, leaving us vulnerable to foreign consortiums, like OPEC, who regularly raise the price to gouge us “evil Americans.”
Also, if you consider the true worth of the US currency, and inflation, gasoline isn’t much higher than it always has been. In 1960 when you paid 25 cents a gallon, gold was $40 an ounce. Today, it’s over $400 an ounce, and gas is $2.50 on average. If you compare other goods, such as food, you can likewise see that gas doesn’t cost much more than it always has when compared to other goods and services. Inflation is ultimately to blame, and the higher price is actually an illusion.
So, nobody with a lick of common sense or common decency can stand up and say that President George W. Bush is to blame for the seemingly high oil prices today. Those few who still do obviously do not know what they are talking about, and only sound ignorant and petty.
“Tolerant liberal” is an oxymoron.

This past weekend I purchased Michelle Malkin’s book, “Unhinged – Exposing Liberals Gone Wild.”
Malkin, a Filipino American, was born in Philly and grew up in New Jersey. She is a conservative syndicated columnist and blogger as well as a Fox News contributor.
I noticed on the back of the book that she had listed several hateful quotes that she had received via email correspondence and blogs. Here are a few of them:
Ought to be shot between those Viet Cong eyes!
Some gook out there pandering to the radical right.
An ugly, obnoxious and semi-literate gook.
This is what happens when you send a yellow woman to do a white man’s job.
…..a know-nothing, empty-headed pseudo-intellectual who gets aroused by the smell of totalitarianism.
And the list goes on….
Now, knowing that she is of the conservative point of view I have to assume that those that are emailing hateful epithets must be of a different, liberal, point of view???
Whatever happened to the tolerant liberal? It seems that they have vanished overnight.
My guess is that they never existed at all.
Says rampant liberalism…..
January 19, 2006
Have you ever really pondered what America would be like under the headship of rampant liberalism?
Oh sure, we have a country stock full of leftist kooks, but they aren’t in positions of elected power.
For the sake of conciliation, let’s take a look at a few of today’s most volatile issues under rampant liberalism.
Under rampant liberalism class warfare will not only be tolerated, but encouraged. Rampant liberalism thrives and feeds off of hatred of those who have, “means.” Never mind the hypocritical liberal elite such as the Kennedys and the Rockefellers, all spouting from the mountain tops of their bank accounts. Once rampant liberalism has worked its will, the culture will implode from the weight of its own tax burden; eventually everyone will be in the same boat, and without a paddle.
Under rampant liberalism withdrawal from Iraq and Afghanistan will be swift; the subsequent vacuum will welcome the Baathists and the Taliban and Al Qaeda back into power, but that’s okay; under rampant liberalism our policy will be not protection, but appeasement. And of course, to protect our borders and prevent people from coming in is racist so let those who wish come to the great socialist trough of privilege and feast–whether they harbor evil intentions or not!
Under rampant liberalism affirmative action, government-funded education, college admission, and postgraduate studies will all be based on quotas, not on merit. Millions of very deserving and qualified young minds will be denied access to the system, all in the interest of “fairness.”
Under rampant liberalism cradle to grave health care will snap the spine of hard working Americans from coast to coast and from sea to shining sea. With socialized medicine the quality of care will be superficial, with massive waiting lists for common medical procedures, and a shortage of doctors to administer them. The lucky few will be able to seek medical treatment in places like India, maybe.
And speaking of socialized health care, a very interesting phenomenon will be evident on just about every busy street corner in the country: the federal abortion clinic!
Under rampant liberalism will there be any dissent? Probably not. Anything considered politically incorrect will be suppressed. Want to speak out about affirmative action? Okay, but be prepared to be fined, imprisoned, or fired from your job when rampant liberalism becomes the norm.
There are many that bemoan the nonsense that comes about as the result of a free and open society; I bemoan the very real and oppressive dangers should rampant liberalism ever come into absolute power.
We need more Theodores
January 19, 2006
Last fall I read an interesting book entitled “Dawn of the Transcendence.”
It was an interesting book, but full of imagery that I’d rather not be forced to visualize……but the book deals with the mind and thoughts of a 19 year old boy, so I understood the reason for some of it.
The boy is referred to only as “the youth” throughout the book. He is confused and insecure and desperate for love and attention, yet not eager to join the carefree, liberal lifestyle that inundates today’s youth. The book takes an odd turn when the boy is suddenly sucked up inside a space ship by an extra-terrestrial character named Theodore.
It’s one of the strangest books I’ve ever read, but it had an interesting twist in that the extra-terrestrial character, Theodore, was of the conservative persuasion.
Never in a million years would I expect to read a book like this to find that the extra-terrestrial character teaches “the youth” about consequences and to choose wisely rather than “to go for it if feels good!”
There is a spiritual realm to the book, but it’s a metaphysical type experience rather than the conventional lost soul seeking a (the) Savior.
Still, though, there is something to be learned from this well-meaning, yet misguided book. (I only say misguided because I believe that real truth and love only come from Jesus and not from carnal knowledge.)
The youth’s search for love and happiness takes him on an eclectic journey that exposes him to the essence of human self-destructiveness and emotional understanding.
With the help of Theodore the youth transforms from an enigmatic adolescent to a man fit and groomed to be a leader among men.
My favorite quote from Theodore:
“Behold the hypocrisy of those your society designates as ‘pro-choice.’ They state their arguments, each of them having had the luxury of being born.”
Touché Theodore!
We could use a few more Theodores out there…….
Bloggers Receive Conference Calls in House Majority Leader Campaign
January 19, 2006
Here is an interesting fact I saw happening over at Wizbang… all three candidates for the House Majority Leader position are conducting interview sessions with bloggers all across the Conservative blogosphere in a campaign to win the votes of their fellow House Republicans.
Click on the following link and go listen to actual audio recordings of the three conference calls and links to some meeting notes by bloggers who attended the sessions. [Click here...]
Coffee? Developing this morning
January 19, 2006
I was just reading an article over at Michelle Malkin’s site regarding the “right-to-die” issue. For those who believe in the “right-to-die” idealogues, this story over at Michelle Malkin’s site may in fact be a wake up call. It is a story of a girl who was about to be taken off life support when at the last moment began coming out of her vegetative state. Go read more…

… and Randy at RightWinged.com finds an article this morning with a photo apparantly stirring up some confusion – Is this another extreme case of liberal bias in the news or just some error? go read it and find out more…

I’m not sure how many of you, if any, know of David Yeagley. He is one of my favorite writers and yes he is of the conservative persuasion. I first found out about him from a story I found quite some time ago about a speech he made at Ohio University about guns and gun rights. I did a blog here.
I would encourge you to follow this link to a story he has done on Pamela Anderson’s quest to stop the enhancement of chicken breasts. Ironic yes. Laughable? You bet.
Missle Strike Nets Terrorists
January 17, 2006
In a report coming out of Pakistan, it says that the missle attack in northern Pakistan aimed at killing number two Al Qaeda murderer, Zawahiri, has killed 4 or 5 terrorists. These dead may be Zawahiri’s staffers as he supposedly sent staff instead of going himself.
Pakistani authories have yet to rule out that Zawahiri was there.
Nagin Packpeddles After Yesterday’s Comment
January 17, 2006
Nagin’s apology here.
“I apologize to any resident in this city that may have been offended,” he said. “That was not my intention. If I could take anything back, I thought the Uptown comment was inappropriate. If any people are working hard to rebuild this city, it’s the people Uptown.”
In his speech, Nagin had said that despite what some Uptown [residents] might be saying, that New Orleans would again be a majority African-American city.
Nagin also apologized for invoking God in his speech, saying that it was inappropriate.
Nagin’s speech included a statement that God wanted New Orleans to be majority African-American.
“Unfortunately, everything I say today is scrutinized to the nth degree,” he said. “It was Martin Luther King’s birthday. I thought it was appropriate to address some of the concerns and frustrations I’m hearing from the African-American community.”
Why should the man apologize for what he said? It is obvious he meant every word of it. Take responsibility Nagin and live up to your comments, you are in fact a hero of New Orleans!! *insert barfing noises here*
America’s Real Pandemic – Extreme Liberalism
January 17, 2006
One of the telltale signs of liberalism is when the view of the Bible is dumbed down for selfish convenience. How many times have we had discussions with believers and non-believers about the Bible and get these comments?
“The Bible is outdated” or “It was written by men a long time ago” or “Things have changed so much since that was written” and my personal favorite, “Things written about in the Bible were intended for that time era. It doesn’t apply anymore”.
These same statements are being made as well about the U.S. Constitution. Our society (controlled and dominated by liberals in our education, courts and media) has been working at a feverish pitch to completely re-write our Constitution. One of the things that makes both documents, the Bible and the Constitution, so remarkable is that they were written to last forever.
Please don’t take me wrong. I am not equating the Bible with the U.S. Constitution. I am only making comparisons as to how liberals view them both. Essentially, that view is quite simple – apply only those parts that don’t affect me personally.
I’m not going to completely pick on the liberals as we all play this game of applying only what fits our current situation and that is part of the overall problem.
The Constitution was written as a means of making sure that we as citizens were protected with our sensible rights. I added the word sensible because our “rights” have gone to an extreme. We have lost the intent of the original document.
The Constitution penners wanted was to make sure that one, the government didn’t interfere in our everyday lives and two, that our Judicial branch didn’t create laws. This is important because the judicial branch is our protection to ensure that we are judged according to known laws.
These three issues are what is sending our country over the edge. Selfishness, hatred, animousity and jealousy, have forced laws onto us all in an attempt to protect someones ridiculous “rights”.
I remember several years ago on the campus of DePaul University, students conviscated every volume of a campus newspaper because they didn’t agree with something a conservative writer had written about in the paper. One of the leaders of the group involved with the collection of the papers was quoted as saying that freedom of speech is only protected when it is the correct speech.
Involving Government in our everyday lives is out of control. It has gotten so bad that citizens can’t seem to make any decisions until they find out what Government is going to do for them. The fiasco in and around the Hurricane Katrina ravaged south is one example of that. All people could say is. “Where is the Government”.
This is by no means protecting citizens from Government. It seems that everyday, I hear about another program by Government or another ruling by Government, or Government sticking their noses where it doesn’t belong. Major League Baseball is a good example. I want to know where in the founding of our Constitution did anyone intend for the United States Government to tell Major League Baseball, or any business, how it was going to mangage itself?
Lastly, is our Judicial system. Let’s start at the top. Our Supreme Court’s function is to interpret laws handed down by the Legislature (a representation of the people). We all know that time and time again, the Court has provided new laws that originated from the bench.
Former nominated Supreme Court Justice Robert Bork, who never was confirmed, believes that it is time to require any new interpretations of law coming from the Supreme Court be approved by Congress – kind of a double checks and balances. He believes this necessary because the kind of proceedures taking place at the Supreme Court have gone on so long now, that people think it is the job of the Court to make the laws.
This same problems exist at all levels of the lower courts. Take for example the ruling by Judge Edward Cashman of New Hampshire, who sentenced confessed rapist Mark Hulett to 60 days in jail. The reason for the light sentence is the Judge doesn’t believe the man will get proper treatment in prison. Is that what the laws of this country say?
This if very typical of extreme liberalism – defend the rights of the accused and ignor those of the victims. This judge needs to be barred from presiding and probably even practicing law as it appears he has lost all sense and sensibility when it comes to our laws.
How far has our Supreme Court gone? You tell me. Early this morning, the Supreme Court Ruled to uphold the state of Oregon’s original law allowing for assissted suicide. What makes the ruling extremely disturbing to me is the fact that the ruling was upheld by a vote of 6-3. The only Justices decenting were Scalia, Thomas and Roberts. (Fox News has more). What happened to the “swing” vote? Our conservative judges aren’t conservative anymore.
If liberalism is not stopped in this country, total chaos is on the not too distant horizon. It is difficult to reason with liberals because this disease has spread so thoroughly throughout our society that it has become part of the norm – full of lies and deception. Liberals are actively destroying our land and doing so by convincing people that lies are truth. I am not very optimistic about a reversal.
