			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Washington, D.C. &#8211;  Members of the <a href="http://trk.cp20.com/Tracking/t.c?G6g4-E2kX-KscpT9">Project 21</a> black leadership group are questioning whether FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski&#8217;s approval of the NBC Universal-Comcast merger was contingent upon the two companies making major concessions to minority special interest groups.</p>
<p>Project 21 full-time fellow Deneen Borelli, who is calling for a Congressional investigation, says the FCC may have tacitly approved the &#8220;race card&#8221; being played against the companies.</p>
<p>&#8220;It would seem corporate shakedowns are still alive and well in 2011,&#8221; said Borelli. &#8220;It&#8217;s appalling that General Electric and Comcast are allowing themselves to be bullied by special interests. The fact that Genachowski jumped on board to essentially give the Obama Administration&#8217;s seal of approval so soon after the race-hustlers gave their go-ahead appears to be more than just coincidence, and it&#8217;s something that deserves the attention of congressional investigators.&#8221;<span id="more-1608"></span></p>
<p>General Electric owns NBC Universal.</p>
<p>According to Matthew Boyle, writing in the Daily Caller, Genachowski&#8217;s support for the NBCU-Comcast merger came less than a week after the companies entered into &#8220;memorandums of understanding&#8221; with black, Hispanic and Asian special interest groups. The payout includes $20 million for &#8220;minority entrepreneurs,&#8221; six new minority channels (of which at least the black channels will include race-specific ownership guarantees) and influence over programming.</p>
<p>Those memorandums were signed on December 14. Al Sharpton&#8217;s National Action Network, the NAACP and the National Urban League wrote to Genachowski in support of the NBCU-Comcast merger on December 16. On December 23, Genachowski announced his own support for the merger. In addition to his group signing the group letter, Sharpton announced in mid-December that he was involved in meetings with FCC officials &#8212; meetings purported at the time to be about talk radio host Rush Limbaugh.</p>
<p>Influence gained by these racial special interests in the deal with regard to programming includes possible oversight of the news division. According to the memorandum of understanding with the NAN, NAACP and NUL: &#8220;NBCU will strive to ensure the presentation of diverse viewpoints by seeking the expanded participation of minorities on its news and public affairs programming. To advance this goal, NBCU will consider suggestions from the African American Advisory Council of individuals who could be considered for such participation.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;The federal government&#8217;s role in approving mergers is supposed to be predicated on the best interests of the consumer,&#8221; added Project 21&#8242;s Horace Cooper, an attorney and member of the board of directors of the National Center for Public Policy Research, which sponsors Project 21. &#8220;Shakedowns and set asides should play no role in the process.&#8221;</p>
<p>Project 21&#8242;s Borelli added: &#8220;It&#8217;s an affront to free enterprise and fairness for specific groups to be given special treatment. The election of President Obama was allegedly supposed to herald the end of preferential treatment, but it sadly appears that it is not. In a time of slow economic growth and high unemployment, giving financial advantages based on color can only increase racial tension and decrease sound business decision-making.&#8221;</p>

<p>&#8220;Daley&#8217;s appointment reaffirms President Obama&#8217;s war on fossil fuels. As head of JPMorgan&#8217;s corporate social responsibility department, Daley lead the charge to raise the price of fossil fuels by advocating a climate change policy that is hostile to carbon-based energy &#8211; coal, gasoline and natural gas,&#8221; said Tom Borelli, Ph.D., director of the National Center&#8217;s Free Enterprise Project.</p>
<p>The goal of JPMorgan Chase&#8217;s climate change policy is &#8220;to advocate that the US government adopt a market-based national policy on greenhouse gas emissions, which includes all sources of emissions and is fair. Options include either a cap-and-trade or tax policy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions at the lowest possible cost.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;In Daley&#8217;s twisted progressive mind, taxing energy in a fragile economy is good public policy. Daley&#8217;s global warming stance, however, is not surprising; after all he served as the chairman of Al Gore&#8217;s failed presidential campaign,&#8221; added Tom Borelli.<br />
&#8220;Because of Daley&#8217;s support of energy taxes, I&#8217;m questioning the judgment of U.S. Chamber President Tom Donahue for hailing Obama&#8217;s appointment. As a veteran D.C insider, Donahue should be able to recognize a progressive wolf in banker&#8217;s clothing,&#8221; said Deneen Borelli, fellow with Project 21.</p>
<p>&#8220;Daley&#8217;s support of energy taxes should be a major cause of concern for the business community that Donahue is supposed to represent. Perhaps part of the Tea Party movement should be dispatched to watch Donahue to make sure the Chamber advocates for free enterprise and not shady inside-the-beltway deals,&#8221; added Deneen Borelli.</p>
<p>Daley also has ties to Exelon, the Chicago based utility that has taken a lead role in attacking coal-based electricity generation. He advised Exelon on its failed effort to buy Public Service Enterprise Group Inc. in 2004.</p>
<p>Exelon is a member of the United States Climate Action Partnership (USCAP, a cap-and-trade lobbying organization and the company was a recipient of a $200 million grant from Obama&#8217;s economic stimulus plan.</p>
<p>The Wall Street Journal recently exposed the Obama-Exelon connection.</p>
<p>&#8220;Daley&#8217;s appointment shows President Obama really wants energy prices to skyrocket. The question remains why Donohue is joining that parade,&#8221; said Deneen Borelli.<span id="more-1602"></span></p>

<p>Washington, D.C. &#8211;  Today policy experts from the <a href="http://cp20.com/Tracking/t.c?CfI5-BoLu-KscpT0">National Center for Public Policy Research</a> are calling attention to corporate special interest groups receiving stimulus money that also are lobbying for Obama&#8217;s energy policy.</p>
<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s alarming that many of the remaining corporate members of the United States Climate Action Partnership – a cap-and-trade lobbying group – such as General Electric, Duke Energy, NextEra Energy, Exelon, and Honeywell all received economic stimulus funds. It seems pushing Obama&#8217;s agenda has financial rewards. The coordinated effort between big government and big business threatens our free enterprise system,&#8221; said Tom Borelli, Ph.D., director of the National Center&#8217;s Free Enterprise Project .<span id="more-1582"></span></p>
<p>General Electric seems to be a chief beneficiary of stimulus funds, with federal money being given to many of its businesses. As noted in a 2009 Wall Street Journal story, &#8216;General Electric Pursues Pot of Stimulus Gold,&#8217; GE CEO Jeff Immelt geared up his lobbying army to exploit President Obama&#8217;s economic stimulus package.</p>
<p>&#8220;Immelt hit the jackpot with Obama&#8217;s stimulus funds. According to null, GE is the recipient of over $49 million in grants and contracts from a wide range of government departments including Energy, Defense, Justice, and Health and Human Services. Not only did GE get direct support, the company will likely benefit from the hundreds of millions of dollars that went to GE&#8217;s utility customers – Duke Energy, NextEra Energy and Exelon. Looting public funds for profit appears to be a primary business strategy adopted by Immelt,&#8221; added Tom Borelli.</p>
<p>A renewable energy mandate is the latest energy policy being proposed in Congress. Senators Jeff Bingaman (D-NM), Chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, and Sam Brownback (R-KS) recently introduced a renewable energy standard bill in the Senate that mandates 15 percent of electricity must be derived from energy sources such as wind and solar power by 2021.</p>
<p>&#8220;With cap-and-trade apparently dead in the Senate, Obama and his big business allies may push a renewable energy standard as a fallback position during the lame-duck session in Congress. The renewable electricity mandate would be an incremental step towards Obama&#8217;s energy goals,&#8221; said Deneen Borelli, full-time fellow of the National Center-sponsored African-American leadership group Project 21.</p>
<p>&#8220;A renewable electricity requirement will benefit GE since it will force utilities to buy wind and solar power products that the company makes, but it will harm our economy. Electricity prices will increase, leading to a loss of manufacturing jobs,&#8221; added Deneen Borelli.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>A quote by Ben Franklin outside Independence Hall right after the Constitutional Convention in 1787, is often misquoted, but the actual quote without all the added flair, is just as thought provoking if one would allow. A woman from Philadelphia asked Doctor Franklin if the new constitution gave Americans a republic or a monarchy. His answer was simply, &#8220;A republic, if you can keep it.&#8221; If we further look at additional quotes by Mr. Franklin and others, we might begin to get a sense of why we might lose it, for it was Franklin who said, &#8220;When the people find they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic.&#8221;; the key word here is money: the power that it wields and the destruction from its worship.<span id="more-1575"></span> </p>
<p>The Founding Fathers handed the citizens of the new America a republic, that is, a government where the supreme power rests in the hands of those legal citizens who can vote, a government of and by the people who through their power of the vote elect representatives. Have we kept it?</p>
<p>James Madison wrote:&#8221;To suppose that any form of government will secure liberty or happiness without any virtue in the people is a chimerical [highly unrealistic] idea.&#8221;</p>
<p>George Washington knew what government was all about when he said, &#8220;Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.&#8221;</p>
<p>Thomas Jefferson, who was adept at discerning the thoughts and intents of men, wrote: &#8220;A nation, as a society, forms a moral person, and every member of it is personally responsible for his society.&#8221;</p>
<p>And George Washington from his life&#8217;s journey understood what the influence of money and power can bring: &#8220;Few men have virtue to withstand the highest bidder.&#8221;</p>
<p>Today, it is the highest bidder that is at the root of corruption that threatens the foundation of our great nation. Every American plays a role whether they know it or not. Are you a sympathizer, an activist, a fanatic or one of the many uninformed, easily swayed by the direction the wind blows?</p>
<p>Eric Hoffer, author of &#8220;The True Believer: Thoughts on the Nature of Mass Movements&#8221;, tells of the nature of humans and the techniques involved in recruiting the masses, often blindly, to carry out the mission of the high bidder. He wrote:</p>
<p>&#8220;All mass movements generate in their adherents a readiness to die and a proclivity for united action; all of them, irrespective of the doctrine they preach, and the program they project, breed fanaticism, enthusiasm, fervent hope, hatred and intolerance; all of them are capable of releasing a powerful flow of activity in certain departments of life; all of them demand blind faith and singlehearted allegiance. </p>
<p>All movements however different in doctrine and aspiration, draw their early adherence from the same types of humanity; they all appeal to the same types of minds.&#8221; At first they come gently. With power they speak and act boldly.</p>
<p>Hoffer believed that it mattered not under what banner one might exercise their sympathy, activism or fanaticism, it was the same &#8220;types of minds&#8221; that flocked to a movement. I contend that those looking for blind-faith followers need only to pick the right subject that fits the needy. We see this everyday in animal rights, environmentalism, global warming or any mass movement, such as &#8220;Going Green&#8221; that appeals to the senses and plays on emotions, paving the way for the same &#8220;types of minds&#8221; to blindly follow.</p>
<p>The masses mindlessly follow, drawn by their strings of emotions expertly pulled on by the leaders of the doctrine; unaware and perhaps uncaring as to who or what leads them. Needs dismantle sensibility. Emotions overpowering.</p>
<p>Few grasp the real doctrine they are eager to give allegiance to, seemingly more interested in self-gratifying actions that might ease one&#8217;s restless sleep. Blind emotions combined with a diminished sense of virtue can steer people in many directions, unwittingly playing into the hands of powers seldom seen, more often unrecognized, uncaring as the small world about them seems unblemished.</p>
<p>The same &#8220;types of minds&#8221; allow for the manipulative control by the larger powers. How innocent it may seem to save an owl, clean up our water, limit our air pollution, save the planet or simply go green. It&#8217;s the corruption hidden behind the superficial crusade that is most troublesome and seldom exposed&#8230;&#8230;at least until now.</p>
<p>A Washington Examiner Special Report notes that when Carl Pope worked for the Sierra Club as the Executive Director, he said, &#8220;environmentalism is part of a broader progressive movement.”</p>
<p>What once began as a simple and seemingly innocent desire by some to change our stewardship of our natural resources, has turned into a multi-billion dollar corrupt business that too few people in this country are even aware of. Giving a dollar here and a dollar there, carrying banners, volunteering time, all believing in working toward something good, when in reality the same &#8220;types of minds&#8221; have lined the pockets of people like Al Gore.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/Big-Green-Five-most-important-environmental-movement-leaders-103859589.html">Mark Hemingway</a> writes of Al Gore: &#8220;Perhaps the most well-known environmental leader in the country, and for good reason. The author of &#8220;Earth in the Balance,&#8221; star of &#8220;An Inconvenient Truth,&#8221; and organizer of the Live Earth concert has done more than any individual to raise awareness of global warming claims. And, since he&#8217;s walked away from politics, book sales, speaking fees and his role as an environmental investment adviser have made him hundreds of millions of dollars.&#8221;</p>
<p>And he is only one of many manipulating the same &#8220;types of minds&#8221; to achieve financial reward. This must be part of the &#8220;broader progressive movement&#8221; Carl Pope referred to.</p>
<p>While the same &#8220;types of minds&#8221; are giving money and time to save the planet, the &#8220;broader progressive movement&#8221; has little actual concern about saving anything, except enough money and power for themselves. </p>
<p>Are you ignorant of these movements? Are you clueless but give anyway? Perhaps you are one who sympathizes with those who play on your emotions and you bite into the premise that we all should do a little something? Maybe you&#8217;re a real activist or a full fledged fanatic. </p>
<p>Regardless of what you are or think you are, I&#8217;m sorry to say you are one of those same &#8220;types of minds&#8221;. You and your children are being played like a well worn fiddle and you probably don&#8217;t even know it.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Washington, D.C. &#8211; A bombshell accusation by the left against fired U.S. Department of Agriculture employee Shirley Sherrod regarding alleged grossly improper labor practices against black farm workers in the 1970s is causing members of the Project 21 black leadership network to speak out.</p>
<p>&#8220;There has been a mighty effort by liberals to present Shirley Sherrod as a victim &#8212; even a saint-like figure.  However, after revelations that her husband, Charles, is an anti-white bigot and that she adheres to class warfare politics, it&#8217;s now being alleged that Ms. Sherrod presided over the crass exploitation of poor black workers on a southwest Georgia agricultural &#8216;plantation,&#8217;&#8221; said Project 21 member Joe R. Hicks.<span id="more-1530"></span> </p>
<p>Hicks, a former executive director of the Greater Los Angeles chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and currently host of &#8220;The Hicks File&#8221; at <a href="http://cp20.com/Tracking/t.c?BdTK-AVKC-KscpT3">PJTV.com</a>, added:  &#8220;The fellow making the claim is none other than Ron Wilkins, an ex-SNCC organizer, who should know what he&#8217;s talking about.  Wilkins says he once worked on the Sherrod-managed plantation in the 1970s.  I know this guy from the early days of &#8216;Black Power&#8217; politics in Los Angeles and he&#8217;s known to be a straight shooter.  If Wilkins claims are proven to be true, Sherrod owes an explanation and an apology &#8212; not only to Wilkins but the other black farm workers she misused.&#8221;</p>
<p>In an article posted on the left-wing Counterpunch web site on August 2, Ron Wilkins reported that Shirley Sherrod and her husband, Charles, helped manage the New Communities, Inc. farm in Albany, Georgia in the 1970s.  Wilkins claimed the Sherrods and other managers &#8220;under-paid, mistreated and fired black laborers &#8212; many of them less than 16 years of age &#8212; in the same fields of southwest Georgia where their ancestors suffered under chattel slavery.&#8221;</p>
<p>Wilkins, a former organizer for the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee who is now a professor at California State University &#8211; Dominguez Hills, says he infiltrated the NCI operation in 1974 on behalf of a group overseeing NCI called the Emergency Land Fund.  Wilkins claims his later efforts to organize NCI workers while working there led to his firing, eviction for an NCI-owned &#8220;shack&#8221; and arrest on &#8220;bogus&#8221; charges.</p>
<p>Wilkins added:</p>
<p>Shirley Sherrod was New Communities Inc. store manager during the 1970s. As such, Mrs. Sherrod was a key member of the NCI administrative team, which exploited and abused the workforce in the field. The 6,000-acre New Communities Inc. in Lee County promoted itself during the latter part of the 1960s and throughout the 70s as a land trust committed to improving the lives of the rural black poor. Underneath this facade, the young and old worked long hours with few breaks, the pay averaged sixty-seven cents an hour, fieldwork behind equipment spraying pesticides was commonplace and workers expressing dissatisfaction were fired without recourse.</p>
<p>In 1974, 67 cents had the purchasing power of $2.91 in 2009 dollars according to the website <a href="http://cp20.com/Tracking/t.c?BdTK-AVKD-KscpT4">measuringworth.com</a>.  Wilkins claims he made $40 a week ($174 in 2009 dollars) at the time he was fired.  His 2010 claims about conditions at the NCI farm and managers&#8217; anti-labor behavior are reported in a September 28, 1974 article in the United Farm Workers newspaper El Malcriado &#8212; which specifically cites Charles Sherrod as a manager of the farm.</p>
<p>&#8220;It truly is shocking to see someone supposedly dedicated to civil rights now exposed for her involvement in the ugly exploitation of black workers approaching their total abuse in the ante-bellum South,&#8221; said Deroy Murdock, a Project 21 member who is also a nationally-syndicated columnist with Scripps Howard News Service and media fellow with the Hoover Institution at Stanford University.  &#8220;Once again, those on the right are supposed to be the &#8216;bad guys&#8217; who make life difficult for black Americans.  Yet here we have Shirley Sherrod, hailed as a black civil rights leader, allegedly taking advantage of poor black Americans, keeping them poor and firing those who complain about mistreatment.&#8221;</p>

<p>Washington, D.C. &#8211; The <a href="http://cp20.com/Tracking/t.c?BdBB-AUe9-KscpT1">National Center for Public Policy Research</a> has today launched a tongue-in-cheek &#8216;Most Ethically-Challenged Watchdog Groups&#8217; list.</p>
<p>CREW not only tops our list, it is our list.</p>
<p>The National Center&#8217;s list is in response to a &#8220;CREW&#8217;s Crooked Candidates 2010&#8243; list published by the self-styled ethics watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW).<span id="more-1528"></span></p>
<p>&#8220;Here&#8217;s the thing,&#8221; said National Center for Public Policy Research Vice President David Ridenour. &#8220;CREW is a tax-exempt foundation under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.  IRS regulations prohibit it from endorsing or rating candidates, even on a &#8216;non-partisan&#8217; basis. How could publicly listing what CREW calls some of &#8217;2010&#8242;s most crooked candidates&#8217; not be rating candidates?&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;Furthermore,&#8221; added Ridenour, &#8220;the list doesn&#8217;t even appear to be non-partisan. Of the 12 candidates rated &#8216;crooked&#8217; by CREW, eight are Republicans, one is an independent who has been associated with the GOP for most of his career, and only three are Democrats, two of whom are running against Republicans CREW also listed.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;Raising a further question of whether CREW&#8217;s &#8216;crooked candidates&#8217; rating project was set up to hurt specific candidates and a specific political party is the fact that of the three Democrats rated, none is considered to have even a remote chance of being elected. So no harm done, really, to the Democrats. But of the Republicans, at least five of the eight are locked in very tight races. Three are threatening to take over Democrat seats. The sole independent is also locked in a very tight race.&#8221;</p>
<p>David Ridenour added, &#8220;CREW also declined to include incumbents on its list of supposedly &#8216;crooked candidates,&#8217; all of whom appear to be running for federal office. As incumbents are disproportionately from one of the political parties, this action alone could be considered partisan.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;And finally,&#8221; Ridenour said, &#8220;lest there be any doubt that this is about partisan politics, the slogan on CREW&#8217;s webpage is &#8216;continuing the culture of corruption.&#8217;  Of this phrase, Wikipedia says, &#8216;Culture of corruption was a political slogan used by the U.S. Democratic Party&#8230;&#8217;&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;The Internal Revenue Service has said, &#8216;&#8230; in order to violate the political campaign prohibition, an advocacy communication [by a 501(c)(3) organization] should contain some relatively clear directive that enables the recipient to know the organization&#8217;s position on a specific candidate or slate of candidates,&#8217;&#8221; said Amy Ridenour, president of the National Center for Public Policy Research. &#8220;When I read CREW&#8217;s &#8216;Crooked Candidates 2010&#8242; webpage, I believed I had a pretty clear indication of what CREW&#8217;s position is on these candidates.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;The rules on intervention in a political campaign are strict,&#8221; added Amy Ridenour. &#8220;We would not even consider rating candidates as &#8216;crooked&#8217; or &#8216;wonderful,&#8217; or even &#8216;grey-haired&#8217;.&#8221;</p>
<p>A 2002 IRS publication, &#8220;<a href="http://http://cp20.com/Tracking/t.c?BdBB-AUe0-KscpT2">Election Year Issues</a> &#8221; by senior IRS officials John Reilly and Judith Kindell provides further information on IRS electioneering regulations:</p>
<blockquote><p>The regulations provide that activities that constitute participation or intervention in a political campaign include, but are not limited to, the publication or distribution of written or printed statements or the making of oral statements on behalf of or in opposition to a candidate for public office. Reg. 1.501(c)(3)-1(c)(3)(iii). See also Reg. 53.4945-3(a)(2). Consequently, a written or oral endorsement of a candidate is strictly forbidden. The rating of candidates, even on a non-partisan basis, also is prohibited.  See Association of the Bar of the City of New York v. Commissioner, 858 F.2d 876 (2d Cir. 1988), cert. denied, 490 U.S. 1030 (1989)&#8230;  As is stated in TAM 1999-07-021 (May 20, 1998), in order to violate the political campaign prohibition, an advocacy communication &#8216;should contain some relatively clear directive that enables the recipient to know the organization&#8217;s position on a specific candidate or slate of candidates.&#8217;</p></blockquote>

Anyone who spends 5 minutes researching the background of Solicitor General, Elena Kagan, Barack Obama&#8217;s nomination for the U.S. Supreme Court, can discover that Elena Kagan is not a person of good character. Forget for the moment about political ideals and whether she does or does not emulate the ideals of Barack Obama or that she may not even be well qualified for the job. The woman has been involved in unlawful and unethical practices that cast a very dark shadow on her character and yet both Maine Senators, Snowe and Collins, refer to Kagan as a woman of &#8220;integrity&#8221;.<span id="more-1525"></span></p>
<p><a href="http://mainehuntingtoday.com/bbb/2010/07/28/elena-kagan-is-the-master-of-cheat-and-cover-up/">Kagan participated in</a> and whitewashed unethical ghostwriting and plagiarizing campaigns while Dean of Harvard Law School, as well as a cover up, and inserted her own false information into a report from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) concerning partial birth abortions, that changed the entire view on the practice. </p>
<p>About her decision to vote for Kagan&#8217;s appointment, <a href="http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/politics/ap/maine-republican-sen-collins-to-back-kagan-third-gop-supporter-to-announce-yes-vote-99496804.html">Sen. Collins said</a> she has, &#8220;the intellect, experience, temperament and integrity&#8221; to serve as Supreme Court Justice. Yesterday, the other Senator from Maine, <a href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/07/28/AR2010072805147_pf.html">Olympia Snowe, said</a> she too would vote to confirm Kagan and gave similar reasons for that decision saying, &#8220;with the strong intellect, respect for the rule of law, and understanding of the important but limited role of the Supreme Court that I believe is required.&#8221;</p>
<p>As with anyone eager to confirm Elena Kagan as a Supreme Court Justice, we must question even their ability to make rational judgments on others character. Who could look at Kagan&#8217;s record and believe she was a person of &#8220;integrity&#8221; or &#8220;respect for the law&#8221;, when she has thumbed her nose at the law and worked to cover it up. </p>
<p>Have our own ethics and moral guidelines become so clouded that actions such as those of Elena Kagan should be overlooked? That is certainly one conclusion I would have to make, unless, of course, Snowe and Collins are no different than the other 98 U.S. Senators who fail at their jobs miserably and haven&#8217;t spent anytime at all gathering facts about Elena Kagan.</p>
<p>Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions yesterday made comments attacking Kagan&#8217;s nomination saying it would be a &#8220;dangerous&#8221; appointment. The video (below) is 3:21 long and not once does Sen. Sessions refer to any specific reasons she would be a &#8220;dangerous&#8221; appointment other than he thinks she is cast in the mold of Barack Obama and specifically hand selected by the President for that purpose. He may be right but why not take the opportunity while addressing the rest of the Senate and specifically lay out all the unethical and law breaking reasons she would be a &#8220;dangerous&#8221; appointment? Yet, another example of a U.S. Senator failing his constituency by not speaking out with all the facts. </p>

<p>Activists Urged to Sign Petition Calling for GE CEO Immelt to Resign</p>
<p>Washington, D.C. &#8211; Calling General Electric an &#8220;opportunistic parasite feeding on the expansion of government,&#8221; activists with the <a href="http://cp20.com/Tracking/t.c?Ba2W-APJl-KscpT2">Free Enterprise Project</a> of the <a href="http://cp20.com/Tracking/t.c?Ba2W-APJw-KscpT3">National Center for Public Policy Research</a> are calling on the public to sign a petition calling on GE CEO Jeff Immelt to resign.<span id="more-1523"></span></p>

<p>On Tuesday, the House Defense Appropriations Committee in an 11-5 vote approved $450 million earmark for a backup engine designed by General Electric and Rolls-Royce for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter.  The jet engine funding was part of the $681.8 billion spending bill approved by the committee.</p>
<p>President Obama and Defense Secretary Robert Gates opposed the funding of the secondary engine over budget concerns  &#8211;  Gates believes funding a backup engine is a waste of money.  The Pentagon chose an engine made by Pratt &#038; Whitney to power the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter.</p>
<p>&#8220;GE&#8217;s success in getting the House panel to vote for its jet engine illustrates its dominance over the legislative process.  Under GE CEO Jeff Immelt&#8217;s leadership, GE has become an opportunistic parasite feeding on the expansion of government,&#8221; said Tom Borelli, Ph.D., director of the National Center for Public Policy Research&#8217;s Free Enterprise Project.</p>
<p>In addition to its lobbying success with the jet engine, GE pushed for President Obama&#8217;s $787 billion stimulus plan and the company is working hard to pass cap-and-trade legislation and a renewable energy standard in the Senate.  GE stands to benefit from government subsidies for its wind turbines and solar energy products and from its utility customers that received smart-grid grants. </p>
<p>&#8220;Recent news stories about the demise of cap-and-trade legislation may be greatly exaggerated.  President Obama recently expressed an interest in pursuing climate change legislation and White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said the House cap-and-trade provisions could be merged with a Senate energy bill during a conference committee,&#8221; said Borelli. </p>
<p>&#8220;GE lobbyists will be swarming over the last minute push for cap-and-trade.  Immelt&#8217;s business strategy to profit from an expansion of government is in direct conflict with liberty-loving Tea Party activists who want to rein in spending and stop cap-and-trade.  GE&#8217;s actions demonstrate that advocates for limited government and fiscal responsibility can&#8217;t ignore the risk posed by CEOs such as Immelt,&#8221; added Borelli. </p>
<p>Stopping cap-and-trade remains a high priority for Tea Party members.  It&#8217;s at the top of the list in the Contract From America,  a policy agenda for Congress put together by Tea Party activists nationwide. </p>
<p>&#8220;To address the threat to limited government brought about by GE we have a petition that calls for Immelt to resign.  It&#8217;s time that &#8216;We the People&#8217; send a strong message that citizen patriots will tackle CEOs as well as big spending elected officials,&#8221; said Borelli.</p>

<p>Washington, D.C. &#8211; In appearances on the Fox News Channel this week, NAACP executive Hilary Shelton claimed he attended a major tea party event <a href="http://tw0.us/Jho">despite having said three days before</a> that he had not attended a tea party, was &#8220;afraid&#8221; to go to a tea party rally and had only watched media reports about them.<span id="more-1507"></span></p>
<p>&#8220;Did Hilary Shelton lie to me?&#8221; asked Deneen Borelli, full-time fellow with the <a href="http://cp20.com/Tracking/t.c?BRej-AC9O-KscpT8">Project 21</a> black leadership network.  &#8220;If he can&#8217;t give a simple, straightforward answer about whether he has been to a tea party, that certainly calls the truthfulness of his other claims about the tea party movement into question.&#8221;</p>
<p>On the July 16 edition of &#8220;America&#8217;s Newsroom&#8221; on the Fox News Channel, Borelli and Shelton — the NAACP&#8217;s senior vice president for advocacy — debated the merits of the NAACP&#8217;s resolution decrying alleged instances of racism at tea party events.   In this debate, Shelton claimed to have attended the tea party rally at the U.S. Capitol on the weekend of the House of Representative&#8217;s vote on health care:</p>
<p>Borelli:     &#8220;Have you been to a tea party?&#8221;</p>
<p>Shelton:     &#8220;I was.  As a matter of fact I was on Capitol Hill at that tea party rally &#8221;</p>
<p>However, on the July 13 edition of &#8220;America Live,&#8221; he had a different answer when asked the same question by Phil Dennis of the Dallas Tea Party:</p>
<p>Dennis: &#8220;Have you been to a tea party event?&#8221;</p>
<p>Shelton: &#8220;I have watched you on TV.  I&#8217;m afraid to go I have not.&#8221;</p>
<p>Which is it?</p>
<p>&#8220;The increasing politicization of the NAACP is putting the reputation of this venerable civil rights institution at risk.  For it to be allowed to be used as a weapon to attack the tea party movement calls its credibility into question, and Hilary Shelton telling two tales of his interactions with the tea party is troubling,&#8221; added Borelli.  &#8220;I would suggest he take the time to read the tea party&#8217;s Contract from America and attend a tea party rally — for the first or second time — with an open mind.&#8221;</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>On Monday <a href="http://mainehuntingtoday.com/bbb/2010/07/12/elena-kagan-and-the-harvard-law-school-plagiarism-disdain-and-disregard/">I introduced readers</a> to a story from Harvard Law School (alerted to me by a reader) about a scandal involving renowned Harvard professors and associates concerning ghostwriting and plagiarism. Supreme Court nominee, Elena Kagan, was dean of the Harvard Law School during much of the time these unethical practices were taking place. It appears Kagan&#8217;s role became that of the master whitewasher to cover up the story. One could even perceive it as protecting a &#8220;friend&#8221;.<span id="more-1505"></span></p>
<p>In the post of that story, I included videos and links to places readers could get more information. After the post, I also posted copies of the story at the <a href="http://conservativezone.com/blog/2010/07/12/elena-kagan-knew-about-harvard-law-school-plagiarism-did-nothing/">Conservative Zone</a> and <a href="http://candidconservatives.com/elena-kagan-and-the-harvard-law-school-plagiarism-disdain-and-disregard/">Candid Conservatives</a>. I followed this up with emailings &#8211; many to prominent conservative bloggers and several activists in my address book. I asked everyone to spread the word, hand out the links and call their own senators and members of the Senate Judiciary Committee to alert them.</p>
<p>I was immediately elated and just as quickly disappointed when I read that the <a href="http://mainehuntingtoday.com/bbb/2010/07/13/senate-judiciary-committee-puts-off-kagan-vote-for-one-week/">Judiciary Committee vote had been delayed</a> a week. The momentary elation came when, for a fleeting nanosecond, I thought perhaps it was because of this revelation. Not so. The delay was the result of Senate Republicans seeking answers to questions concerning how Kagan would conduct herself in hearings concerning Obamacare, in which she had acted as legal council for Obama as Solicitor General.</p>
<p>I learned only moments ago from an email and from the <a href="http://authorskeptics.blogspot.com/2010/07/senate-republicans-are-looking-into.html">&#8220;Authorskeptics&#8221; blog</a>, that members of the Republican Party &#8220;are looking into the indications that Elena Kagan was involved in whitewash of the Larry Tribe ghostwriting scandal and &#8212; of particular concern &#8212; that she involved herself in an investigation of the charges that Tribe used ghostwriters to produce a book on which Tribe took sole credit as author &#8230;.&#8221;</p>
<p>There is hope. What will become of this &#8220;looking into&#8221;, only time will tell. It is important for readers to continue sending emails and making telephone calls. These senators need to know that we the people are on top of this and will settle for nothing less than the complete and accurate vetting of candidates they are required to do.</p>
<p>I want to personally thank everyone who took the time to notify a friend or family member, to send an email or make a phone call. I would like to ask that all of you who did, to follow that up and let them know their effort has at least awoken some in the Senate and they are looking into this. Encourage them to continue to pass the word.</p>
