Our State-Run Media
September 14, 2009
I always used to snicker a bit when I heard Rush Limbaugh or Glenn Beck refer to our mainstream media as being our state-run media. No more snickering. It’s true, at least in the sense of how it is being run. In communist countries the government always ran the media outlets and only provided information to the people that government wanted them to know.
In this country we refer to such blatant biased media as being “in the tank” or “kool-aid drinkers”, etc. We can’t say that our media is directly owned and operated by the government, yet, but the effect is the same. Right now we still have talk radio and the Internet where people who want to know the truth can go and get the truth. But it requires work.
All Americans, regardless of their political persuasions, should be concerned. I tell my friends and family to be careful as there is no reason to assume that the information you are getting from the regular sources – television, newspapers, magazines – contains truth. This is what it has come to.
What has been a component of the creation of the greatest country on earth has been free speech and an honest media source whose goal was to report events important to the lives of Americans. That reporting, whose foundation was built on journalistic integrity, has eroded and left us with suppression of information and a biased resource. This becomes a real danger to Americans who can no longer make decisions based on truth. It is also a major step toward the destruction of this country.
We have to somehow convince these media sources that we no longer are interested in what they are selling. We need to stop buying their papers and stop watching their news shows. People cannot trust that the information they get is honest journalism. That’s sad.
Americans everywhere need to speak up!
