Sunstein Nomination Put On Hold Again
July 23, 2009
Cass Sunstein, a man who has written openly that he believes animals should have a right to sue and supports bans on agriculture and hunting, will have to wait longer to see if he will become President Obama’s “Regulatory Czar”. From Fox News:
President Obama’s nominee for “regulatory czar” has hit a new snag in his Senate confirmation process — a “hold” by Texas Sen. John Cornyn, who’s says he’s not convinced that Harvard professor Cass Sunstein won’t push a radical animal rights agenda, including new restrictions on agriculture and even hunting.
Obama Administration Begins Opposition To States Claiming Sovereignty And Gun Rights
July 22, 2009
The several states are lining up to reclaim their sovereignty and telling the federal government to butt out. This is being done in myriad ways but all are related in that most claim that the Tenth Amendment protects the states from federal tyranny. States are passing resolutions, memorials and two states have passed laws and they intend to apply those laws for their citizens. The two states are Montana and Tennessee.
It was expected that at some point these laws would be challenged and it appears actions to do such has begun. The Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has published open letters to federal firearms license holders in Montana and Tennessee explaining that federal law trumps state law when it comes to gun laws. NAACP Seeks to Impede Black Advancement By Endorsing Climate-Based Regulation

Directionless Group Pushes Plan Opposed by Majority of Constituency
Washington D.C. – Contending with political realities such as the election of the first black president, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is understandably struggling to justify its continued existence. At its centennial convention, it clearly moved in the wrong direction by allying with environmental lobbyists to promote economically devastating climate policy opposed by the majority of black Americans.
“I’m all in favor of the nation’s oldest civil rights group redefining its mission and agenda; however this indicates that the NAACP continues to struggle with current realities that face the nation’s black communities by promoting policies they are opposed to,” said Project 21 member Joe Hicks, who is also a PajamasTV commentator. “If this group simply wants to be defined as another left-wing organization touting the weak science on climate change, then it is destined to face ever-growing irrelevancy.” Read more
NRA-ILA Issue Statement On Judge Sonia Sotomayor
July 20, 2009
Other than declaring war, neither house of Congress has a more solemn responsibility than the Senate’s role in confirming justices to the U.S. Supreme Court. As the Senate considers the nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor, Americans have been watching to see whether this nominee – if confirmed – would respect the Second Amendment or side with those who have declared war on the rights of America’s 80 million gun owners.
From the outset, the National Rifle Association has respected the confirmation process and hoped for mainstream answers to bedrock questions. Unfortunately, Judge Sotomayor’s judicial record and testimony clearly demonstrate a hostile view of the Second Amendment and the fundamental right of self-defense guaranteed under the U.S. Constitution. The Results Of “Restoring The Scientific Process To Its Rightful Place”
July 17, 2009
Remember when President Obama announced that now he was going to restore science to its rightful place? That was one of those comments that nobody has any idea exactly what it meant but by golly it sure sounded good. Granted, in this particular reference, he was referring to action being taken on the Endangered Species Act, but most feel it was also a message to Americans that it also implied all scientific aspects of his administration.
Evidently we are getting a taste of what Obama meant. Back when he made the statement, I asked whose science was he planning to restore? Maybe he is planning to restore the science, if that’s what you want to call it, of his newly appointed “Science Czar”, John Holdren. Read more

Discussing The Hearing Process Of Judge Sonia Sotomayor
July 14, 2009
Today at 6 p.m. I will be participating in a conference call sponsored by the Heritage Foundation. This conference call will include South Carolina Senator Jim Demint and former Attorney General Edwin Meese of the Reagan years. We will be discussing the nomination process and hearings taking place today for President Obama’s selection as a replacement for Justice Souter on the U.S. Supreme Court – Judge Sonia Sotomayor.
I have yet to decide but I may attempt to live-blog that conference. If I don’t, I will update readers at the conclusion of the call. I am grateful to have been able to be a part of this call and I thank the Heritage Foundation, one of my all-time favorite organizations. Read more
Two-Thirds Of States Support Second Amendment Incorporation
July 14, 2009
The NRA is declaring that two-thirds of the state attorneys general have signed an amicus brief in support of the U.S. Supreme Court hearing the case of NRA v. Chicago. In that case, the NRA contends that the Seventh District Court of Appeals erred in its declaration that the Second Amendment does not apply to states and cities; that those entities can create their own gun laws by disregarding the Second Amendment. (This is the same position that Obama’s Supreme Court appointee, Sonia Sotomayor has taken.)
The NRA believes that the Seventh District should have ruled as did the Ninth District recently in California saying that the “Due Process” clause of the Fourteenth Amendment incorporates the Second Amendment, therefore forcing the states to apply the Second Amendment and not create gun laws that supersede federal law.
U.S. Citizens Moving Toward Conservatism?
July 7, 2009
I’m not buying it! According to Gallop, a new poll shows that more Americans say they are becoming more conservative in their political views than liberal.
That might be what the poll says and that might be what those polled actually said but I’m not buying that it is true. I think those polled have the perception they are conservative (and I honestly don’t think they know what that means) and/or they don’t want to be directly associated with some of the real whacked out leaders on the left – and I certainly can’t blame them for that.
